Lesson 7 of 7

Getting ready for adult money life

5 min read

You're heading toward adult life, where you'll handle rent, bills, a full wage, taxes and all your own money decisions. That might sound daunting, but here's the reassuring truth: you've already learned the core ideas in this track, and the same simple principles that work now scale up perfectly to adult life.

The big skills carry straight over. Knowing your take-home versus your gross pay. Budgeting — deciding where money goes before it's gone. Saving some of everything, automatically. Avoiding debt traps and spending on what you value. Staying safe with your money online. Being patient for bigger goals. Adults who are great with money are just doing these same things at a larger scale. You're not starting from zero when you turn 18 — you're already ahead.

A few things will be new as an adult, and that's fine — you'll learn them when you get there. Tax gets a bit more involved, you might have a pension through work (start it early — future-you will thank you), you'll deal with rent and bills, and bigger decisions like loans or a mortgage may come one day. When they do, you'll approach them with the solid foundation you've already built, and tools like mySal are there to help you work out the real numbers.

You've done something brilliant. You've completed Money & Independence, and the whole Kids & Teens journey. You understand earning, budgeting, saving, banks, cards, avoiding traps, online safety, and how it all sets you up for the future. Keep these habits going, stay curious about money, and you'll step into adult life genuinely ahead of the game. When you're ready, the main mySal Academy has adult tracks waiting to take you even further.
